Concerns are mounting over the alleged complicity of the police in handling the recent vandalism at the DC Lounge in Jamshedpur. A local Member of the Legislative Assembly has formally accused law enforcement of protecting perpetrators and obstructing justice. In a strongly worded letter to the Senior Superintendent of Police, the MLA demanded answers regarding the Bistupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge’s presence at the Sakchi DC Lounge late at night, hours after an alleged attack by individuals from Ramdas Bhatta, Bistupur, who reportedly used syringes as weapons. The MLA questioned the jurisdictional overreach and alleged intimidation tactics employed by the Bistupur SHO in Sakchi. He also sought clarity on whether superiors authorized this intervention and why another Bistupur officer, Gopal Pandey, seemed more engaged. Pandey’s actions, including allegedly helping a suspect hide at a tutor’s residence and then escorting him away, are under scrutiny. The MLA suspects the police presence aimed to aid the attackers and obscure evidence. He emphasized that the Bistupur vandalism was a direct fallout of the Sakchi violence, not an independent event, casting doubt on the Bistupur police’s ability to conduct an unbiased probe. The MLA detailed how the Bistupur SHO allegedly returned motorcycles abandoned by the attackers at the Sakchi scene, contravening standard police procedure which would involve inventory, seizure, and formal investigation. This act, along with helping a fugitive escape, is deemed criminal. While police officials have claimed an arrest and recovery of a weapon, the MLA claims to have video evidence of a pre-meditated assault by a large group of youths, many affiliated with ‘RD Bhatta’. The footage reportedly implicates the tutor as well. The MLA suggests the police leadership may have been misinformed by their subordinates, leading to a premature public statement. He implored the SSP to launch a serious inquiry into the matter, summon explanations from the Bistupur SHO and Gopal Pandey, and investigate their conduct. Failure to address these allegations could lead to further deterioration of public safety, especially in the Ramdas Bhatta vicinity.
