Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district has witnessed a substantial surrender of 50 Naxal insurgents, with women comprising a significant majority of 32. The insurgents laid down 39 firearms to the Border Security Force at the Kamtera camp. This mass defection is seen as a major blow to Maoist operations in the critical Maad region. Among those surrendering were senior figures like Prasad Tadami and Heeralal Komra, along with 21 ACM-level cadres. Security forces are encouraged by this development and are intensifying outreach programs, with expectations of another large group of approximately 120 cadres surrendering in Bijapur shortly. This marks the first wave of surrenders from the northern Maad region.
