Andrew Flintoff will not continue as head coach of the Northern Superchargers for the upcoming 2026 season of The Hundred. His decision comes after a breakdown in contract discussions with the newly acquired Indian ownership, Sun Group. Flintoff, who led the team for two seasons, stated that the proposed terms did not align with his expectations for compensation, making him feel undervalued. This marks a significant departure for the 47-year-old coach, whose career gained renewed public interest following a serious accident in late 2022. During his tenure, the Superchargers improved their performance, securing a third-place finish in the league stage this year, though a rain-affected match prevented them from advancing further. Flintoff also holds the position of head coach for the England Lions. He revealed on a podcast that the negotiations with Sun Group, which owns multiple global franchises, stalled when they presented their offer. While acknowledging that coaching isn’t solely about money, Flintoff believes his compensation was significantly lower than that of his peers and that the offer did not reflect his perceived value. The franchise has countered that they offered a competitive salary to retain him. Flintoff is now exploring other coaching prospects, with reports suggesting interest from Manchester Originals and Trent Rockets.
