Priyanshu Chhetri, the actor who played Babu Chhetri in Amitabh Bachchan’s film ‘Jhund’, has tragically lost his life in Nagpur. The actor, also known as Babu Ravi Singh Chhetri, was allegedly murdered by his friend, Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, early Wednesday morning. The suspect is currently in police custody.
The fatal incident reportedly stemmed from a drunken argument between the two friends. Police sources indicate that Chhetri and Sahu had a pattern of drinking together. On Tuesday night, they convened at an abandoned property in the Jaripatka neighborhood for a drinking session. During the course of their meeting, an altercation escalated.
Details emerging from the investigation suggest that Chhetri made threats towards Sahu. Subsequently, Sahu is alleged to have restrained Chhetri by tying him with wires and then proceeded to attack him with a sharp object. Law enforcement from the Jaripatka police station arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted. The Crime Detection Branch achieved a swift arrest of Sahu within six hours of the incident. Sahu is understood to have prior criminal cases against him.
It has also come to light that Chhetri had previous run-ins with the law, including an arrest in 2022 for stealing valuables amounting to ₹5 lakh. Investigations suggest a recent monetary dispute between Chhetri and Sahu, though their past disagreements had been amicably settled by mutual friends.
‘Jhund’ highlighted the impactful work of Vijay Barse in empowering underprivileged youth through football in Nagpur. Chhetri, a local talent from a humble background, was among the youngsters who found a role in the critically acclaimed film. His life was marked by hardship, including alleged substance abuse and involvement in petty criminal activities.
