Priyanshu Chhetri, an actor who gained recognition for his part in the acclaimed film ‘Jhund’ alongside Amitabh Bachchan, has been tragically killed in Nagpur. The incident, which took place on Wednesday, October 8, is alleged to have been perpetrated by his friend, Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, who is now in police custody. The fatal confrontation stemmed from a drunken argument.
Sources suggest that Chhetri, also known as Babu Ravi Singh Chhetri, and Sahu had a routine of consuming alcohol together. Their latest gathering on Tuesday night, held at an abandoned property in Jaripatka, turned violent. Following a verbal dispute where Chhetri reportedly threatened Sahu, the latter is accused of incapacitating Chhetri by tying him up and then attacking him with a sharp object after Chhetri fell asleep. The motive appears to be linked to escalating tensions.
The Jaripatka police station was alerted, and an investigation was immediately launched. The accused, Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, was apprehended remarkably quickly, within six hours of the crime being reported. Police have revealed that Sahu has previous brushes with the law. Chhetri himself was not without a criminal past, having been arrested in the past for significant theft. A recent financial disagreement between the two men had also strained their relationship, despite earlier interventions by mutual acquaintances.
‘Jhund’ depicted the inspiring efforts of Vijay Barse to uplift slum children through football in Nagpur. Chhetri, who played the character of Babu Chhetri, was a local youth from a disadvantaged background. His earlier life was characterized by struggles with addiction and minor offenses, including coal theft, before his foray into acting.
