A devastating road accident unfolded on the Raipur-Jabalpur National Highway 30 in Chhattisgarh’s Kawardha district on Sunday evening. The collision, which involved a truck and a Bolero, happened near Akalgharia village under the jurisdiction of the Chilfi police station. The incident resulted in five fatalities, with an additional five individuals suffering severe injuries. The aftermath of the crash was marked by widespread distress and calls for help. Police from the Chilfi station responded swiftly, ensuring the injured were promptly taken to a hospital for medical attention.
Initial reports indicate that the victims were teachers and their relatives from Kolkata. They were reportedly en route to Bilaspur to board a train bound for Kolkata, following a visit to the Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh. The accident occurred as they were traveling on the highway.
The Bolero vehicle was carrying ten occupants and had been rented from Satna. The collision happened when the Bolero reached Akalgharia on National Highway 30, crashing head-on with a truck. The impact of the crash was incredibly powerful, leaving the Bolero severely damaged. The driver of the Bolero died instantly, and four others later succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical care.
Local residents quickly arrived at the scene to assist the injured. They worked to extract the victims from the wreckage and notified the police. The Chilfi police and the Dial 112 team provided immediate assistance, transporting the injured to the Bodla Community Health Center with the help of local villagers. One person was declared dead on arrival, and three others passed away while receiving treatment. The remaining five individuals, who were critically injured, were subsequently transferred to the Kawardha District Hospital. The deceased included three women, a young girl, and a man. Authorities are actively investigating to determine the exact cause of the accident and ascertain responsibility.
