Patna residents will experience the convenience of metro travel starting October 6th, with the long-awaited inauguration of the Patna Metro. Bihar’s Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, will officially launch the service. The initial phase will cover a 9-kilometer stretch of the Red Line, connecting three stations. These stations are ISBT, Zero Mile, and Bhootnath. The Patna Metro Rail Corporation received the green light for operations from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety on Saturday. Following this approval, the Urban Development Department scheduled the inauguration for October 6th. Test runs have been completed, and the metro will operate at 40 kmph, initially utilizing three coaches.
Showcasing Art, Culture, and Knowledge
The metro coaches will reflect Bihar’s rich heritage, with artistic representations of local culture and knowledge. The coaches will bear the name ‘Patna Metro,’ along with depictions of iconic landmarks like the Patna Golghar and Mahavir Temple, along with Madhubani paintings, celebrating the region’s art and history. The three coaches can accommodate a total of 1000 passengers. Seating will be available for 138 passengers, while 900 can travel standing.
Safety and Connectivity Features
Each coach is equipped with 360-degree CCTV cameras. Emergency buttons and microphones are also installed, providing direct communication with the driver. The Patna Metro is expected to significantly improve Patna’s transportation network, alleviating traffic congestion and providing a more efficient commute for residents.
