Cyclone Shakthi, a severe cyclonic storm in the northwest Arabian Sea, has progressed west-southwest at 15 kmph over the past six hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports a movement of 17 kmph in the previous six hours. The cyclone is anticipated to continue moving west-southwest, reaching the northwest and adjacent west-central Arabian Sea by the evening of Sunday, October 5th. The storm is forecast to bring heavy rainfall to the East Vidarbha and Marathwada regions. Mumbai and parts of Gujarat are under a heavy rain warning. Light rain is expected in Mumbai through October 8th, 2025. Wind speeds could reach 45–55 km/h, with gusts up to 65 km/h, especially along the North Maharashtra coast until Sunday, October 5th. The cyclone is expected to impact the Maharashtra and Gujarat coasts by October 6th. Residents are urged to stay updated on weather developments as the cyclone approaches. Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and moderate rain with strong winds of 30-40 kmph, are expected in South-Konkan-Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada. Coastal district collectors of Saurashtra have returned to their districts, and Sunday leave for Collectorate staff have been cancelled. The cyclone is likely to remain at sea. Cyclone Shakthi is predicted to change direction from the morning of October 6, shifting eastward and gradually weakening.
