The Madhya Pradesh government is taking decisive action following the tragic deaths of children due to a cough syrup. Dr. Praveen Soni, a pediatrician at the Civil Hospital in Parasia, Chhindwara, has been suspended after being taken into custody.
Eleven children died after being administered a toxic cough syrup, allegedly prescribed by Dr. Soni. The incident has caused a state-wide uproar, and an investigation is ongoing. The investigation revealed the doctor prescribed drugs that harmed the infants’ kidneys, leading to fatalities.
Health Commissioner Tarun Rathi’s suspension order stated that Dr. Soni was found to be engaged in private practice. He had allegedly prescribed drugs to infants who subsequently suffered adverse effects, including high fever and difficulty urinating, with some children dying.
SP Ajay Pandey confirmed that a case has been registered against Dr. Soni. The charges include violations under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Dr. Soni treated the majority of the affected children and prescribed the Coldrif medication. The manufacturing company, Srisan Pharmaceuticals of Tamil Nadu, is also implicated in the case.
