In the wake of the recent violence in Leh, the government has announced a series of confidence-building measures. These include guarantees of security for land, jobs, and the cultural identity of the region’s residents. The government has committed to releasing all detained protestors following court directives. Chief Secretary of Ladakh, Pawan Kotwal, confirmed that the government has already announced the release of 40 detainees arrested for their alleged involvement in arson and violence on September 24th. The government intends to initiate dialogue to address the issues, and is focused on securing the land, resources, jobs, livelihoods and identity of the people of Ladakh.
