Mahindra has launched the 2025 Thar facelift, incorporating a series of updates. This includes new features, aesthetic changes, and interior modifications while maintaining the existing mechanical configurations. This comparison provides a detailed look at the differences between the previous and updated Mahindra Thar, covering design elements, interior features, specifications, and pricing.
**2025 Mahindra Thar Facelift: Evolution of Design**
The previous generation Thar was characterized by its robust design, featuring elements such as chunky bumpers, detachable roof panels, squared wheel arches, the iconic seven-slat grille, and rugged design cues. The facelift maintains these recognizable traits, refining them to create a fresher look.
The grille now matches the body color, creating a more cohesive front appearance. Redesigned dual-tone bumpers with silver accents provide a contrasting effect. Mahindra has introduced two new color options: Battleship Grey and Tango Red, replacing the old Rage Red.
**Enhanced Features of the New Thar**
The previous model included features such as steering-mounted controls, manual AC, roof-mounted speakers, and a 7-inch touchscreen.
The 2025 Mahindra Thar facelift introduces several improvements. It includes an electric fuel-lid opener, Type-C charging ports for front and rear passengers, and rear AC vents. The infotainment unit is now larger, at 10.25 inches, coupled with an updated interface compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additionally, the new Thar comes with a reversing camera, as well as a rear wiper and washer.
**Interior Upgrades and Refinements**
The earlier Thar’s interior was designed to handle both daily driving and off-road conditions, making it practical. It included roof-mounted speakers, a touchscreen infotainment system, and washable floor panels. Despite its simple layout, it offered the comfort expected from a modern SUV while being tough enough for rugged terrain.
Mahindra has implemented interior upgrades, including a new steering wheel. The facelift version now includes grab handles on the A-pillars with ‘THAR’ branding for the driver and front passenger – previously, it was only on the co-driver’s side. A sliding armrest with storage is also introduced. Automatic variants now feature a dead pedal. In addition, the power window switches are now located on the door armrests instead of the center console.
**Powertrain: The Same Reliable Engines**
The facelifted Thar maintains its mechanical setup. It offers the same engine options: a 1.5-liter diesel producing 118PS/300Nm, a 2.2-liter diesel delivering 132PS/300Nm, and a 2.0-liter turbo petrol making 150PS/320Nm. Gearbox choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
The rear-wheel drive configuration is paired with the 1.5-liter diesel (manual only) and the 2.0-liter turbo-petrol (automatic only). The four-wheel drive setup is combined with the larger diesel engine and the turbo-petrol, both available with manual and automatic gearboxes.
**Price and Competitive Landscape**
The previous model was priced between Rs 11.35 lakh and Rs 17.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2025 Mahindra Thar facelift is priced between Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Both models continue to compete with the Force and Maruti Jimny.
