A major fraud has been uncovered in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, where a father and son stand accused of orchestrating a scam that defrauded individuals of crores of rupees under the false promise of securing assistant positions in the High Court. The duo, residing in Tharpakhna, within the jurisdiction of the Lower Bazaar police station, allegedly exploited their perceived influence and connections with senior officials to deceive young people with the allure of government employment.
Police investigations reveal that the accused, identified as Rajkumar and his son Paramit Raj, had been misleading unsuspecting youths for an extended period, claiming to have the ability to easily secure assistant positions in the High Court. They exploited this facade to extract significant amounts of money from more than half a dozen youths. Initially, the father-son team reassured the victims with various promises, but despite the passage of time, no jobs were ever offered. When the victims demanded the return of their money, the accused absconded.
Compelled to seek justice, the affected individuals lodged a formal complaint at the local police station. During the investigation, the police discovered that the accused had secretly returned to Ranchi and were hiding at their residence. The victims promptly alerted the authorities, who swiftly surrounded the house. The Lower Bazaar police apprehended both suspects and placed them in judicial custody. The police are continuing their efforts to locate a third suspect involved in the scam.
Law enforcement authorities confirmed that the accused had targeted numerous individuals, not just a few, and collected large sums of money with the false promise of employment. The total amount defrauded is estimated to exceed one crore rupees. This is not an isolated incident in Ranchi, where similar scams have been reported, preying on individuals with the false promise of employment and leveraging high-level contacts. Earlier this year, a woman named Usha Barla was arrested from the Bariatu area for impersonating a RIMS doctor and defrauding people of lakhs of rupees. She promised jobs, flats, and government benefits in exchange for money.
Usha Barla faced charges across several police stations, including Nagri, Bariatu, Dhurwa, and Namkum. After months of investigation and using technical resources, the police arrested her in June. Ranchi police urge citizens to exercise caution and promptly report any instances of individuals demanding money in exchange for jobs or benefits.
