A five-month-old marriage ended tragically in Araria, where Sapna Kumari was found dead at her marital home in Ward 13 of Bangama Panchayat. Her body was discovered hanging from a fan, and she was immediately transported to Bhabua Sadar Hospital. Sapna, who hailed from Radhanagar in Purnia district’s Kasba police area and was the daughter of Mantu Mahto, was married to Sonu Kumar. The family of the deceased has accused the in-laws of murdering Sapna by strangulation. They further allege that the in-laws had been demanding a dowry of a considerable amount of money and a motorcycle. The in-laws initially remained quiet, but the family believes the murder was a result of a dispute arising from the dowry demands. Police have taken Sapna’s husband, his mother, and other relatives into custody to conduct inquiries. SDPO Sushil Kumar stated that a murder FIR has been filed given the severity of the case, and a post-mortem has been completed. The police investigation is ongoing, with authorities vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
