The cyber cell has arrested a fraudster who tricked a student from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, into a Free Fire Max game scam, resulting in the theft of 13 lakh rupees. The student took his own life due to the torment of blackmail by the fraudsters. The police have seized approximately five lakh rupees from the scammer’s accounts and recovered assets worth three lakh rupees bought with the fraudulent money. Another student associated with the gang was also apprehended but was later released after being questioned and served with a notice.
The arrest took place in the Raj State Muslim Basti, located in the Ghatshila police station area of the Purvi Singhbhum district in Jharkhand. The apprehended individual, Sanat Gorai, has completed his 12th-grade education. His method involved defrauding people through online gaming. A 14-year-old class six student from Dhanuwasand village, who was a victim, died by suicide on September 15. Examination of the student’s mobile phone revealed the presence of the Free Fire Max game.
