Rajiv Chandrasekhar, a prominent figure in the Kerala BJP, addressed the controversy surrounding BJP spokesperson Printu Mahadevan’s threat against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Chandrasekhar unequivocally stated that the BJP does not support the threatening remarks made by Mahadevan during a live TV debate. He underscored the party’s commitment to development-oriented politics and its opposition to personal vendettas. According to Chandrasekhar, the BJP does not tolerate such behavior and views Mahadevan’s statement as an inappropriate expression of anger.
Chandrasekhar further elaborated that the party is committed to a politics of ideology and progress. He stated that the party does not engage in politics based on personal animosity. The controversy originated from Mahadevan’s remarks on September 26, during a panel discussion on a television channel. Mahadevan threatened Rahul Gandhi, asserting that he would be shot, during a discussion about protests in Bangladesh and Nepal. The Congress reacted strongly to Mahadevan’s remarks, leading to protests in Kerala and a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah requesting action against Mahadevan. Mahadevan was arrested and later released on bail. The Congress criticized the Kerala government for not arresting Mahadevan quickly, alleging collusion between the ruling party and the BJP.
