An incident of suicide by a BSF jawan, Rahul Manjhi, occurred at the Murhu police station in the Khunti district of Jharkhand, located about 50 kilometers from the capital, Ranchi. The news sent shockwaves through the area. Senior police officers, including SP Manish Toppo and DSP Varun Rajak, rushed to the scene, and a thorough investigation has been ordered.
The Khunti District SP has taken action, suspending the station officer, Ramdev Yadav. The BSF jawan was discovered to have died by hanging himself in the bathroom of the Murhu police station earlier in the day. The deceased soldier, Rahul Manjhi, was posted in Siliguri and had been on leave, failing to return to duty.
Reports indicate that Rahul Manjhi was near the Mahil village when a woman accused him of harassment. Local residents caught him and informed the Murhu police. The police took the jawan into custody based on the harassment allegations and locked him up. On Tuesday, it was discovered that the jawan had taken his own life by hanging himself with a wire from the bathroom ventilator.
Following the news of the suicide, the jawan’s family and his wife arrived at the police station, accusing the police of wrongdoing. The district administration is investigating the entire matter, and because the deceased was a BSF personnel, the investigation will be under the supervision of a magistrate. The post-mortem will also be conducted under the magistrate’s supervision.
