Varun Chakaravarthy, a key player in India’s Asia Cup 2025 victory, used a playful approach to celebrate. He posted on X (formerly Twitter) a photo of himself in bed, his teacup resting on the bedside table, accompanied by an image of his teammates holding up an ‘imaginary trophy’ to commemorate their win against Pakistan. The tweet stated: “Akkha duniya ek taraf, aur mere India ek taraf. Jai Hind.” This was a clear taunt aimed at Pakistan and ACC head Mohsin Naqvi, because India didn’t get the real trophy after the chaotic post-match ceremony.
The Indian squad also took the opportunity to mock Naqvi’s actions, with some players lounging on the ground and browsing their phones as Naqvi stood awkwardly on the podium. Many players also bypassed collecting their individual awards or shaking hands with the ACC president, which led to him leaving the stadium with the trophy. This wasn’t Chakaravarthy’s initial instance of using a teacup to tease Pakistan. Previously, following India’s Champions Trophy win against New Zealand in 2025, the Karnataka bowler shared a photo of himself drinking coffee with the trophy, with the caption: “A lot of distance was travelled to get a taste of this Cup.”
Despite Pakistan losing to India three times in the tournament, the ACC Chairman’s actions of removing the trophy from India were considered highly disgraceful. This action then led to the tarnishing of his reputation.
