The site of the stampede at the actor-politician Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, remains a scene of devastation. The ground is covered with scattered shoes, crushed bottles, torn flags, clothes, broken sticks, and debris, creating a stark reminder of the tragedy. The event has left a palpable sense of grief and shock in the community.
According to Tamil Nadu’s Health Secretary P. Senthil Kumar, the tragic event claimed the lives of 39 individuals, including 17 women, 13 men, 4 boys, and 5 girls. Post-mortems have been conducted on 30 of the deceased, and their bodies have been handed over to their families. The remaining post-mortems are ongoing. Additionally, 26 injured individuals received outpatient care, while 67 were admitted for inpatient treatment, with two patients in serious condition.
