The circumstances surrounding the death of singer Jubin Garg are under increased scrutiny as his family seeks a deeper investigation. Officially, drowning is listed as the cause of his passing on September 19, 2025, in Singapore. However, Garg’s family believes there may have been foul play involved and has filed a formal complaint with the Assam Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The complaint was submitted online by Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, his sister-in-law Pami Barthakur, and his uncle Manoj Borthakur. At the time of the incident, Garg was in Singapore for the North East India Festival, where he was scheduled to perform on September 20th.
Garima Saikia has contested the initial reports, stating that the incident was not a scuba diving accident but occurred while swimming with friends. Both the Singaporean autopsy and a subsequent post-mortem in Assam confirmed drowning as the cause of death, with no evidence of criminal activity.
The family has directly accused Jubin Garg’s manager, Siddhartha Sharma, and the organizer of the North East Festival, Shyamkanu Mahanta, of negligence. A formal complaint naming them has been filed, and sources suggest the complaint also includes other individuals involved in the Singapore trip.
The family has requested a comprehensive investigation. Authorities have acknowledged the complaint, and the CID is expected to launch its inquiry shortly.
Sources indicate that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing Jubin’s death has summoned both the festival organizer and Garg’s manager to cooperate with the investigation by October 6th. Additionally, summonses have been issued to a dozen other individuals from Assam who were also present on the yacht with Garg. The Chief Minister of Assam has confirmed that summons have been issued through the Indian Embassy in Singapore and that lookout notices via Interpol have been issued to prevent Sharma and Mahanta from leaving the country.
Jubin Garg, 52, died while swimming in Singapore last week. He was in Singapore for the North East India Festival, and the cause of his death is now under intense investigation.
