The Super Over saw the culmination of a thrilling match between India and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2025. Batting first, the Indian team scored 202 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Sri Lanka matched this score, also scoring 202 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs, which led to a Super Over. Kusal Perera and Dasun Shanaka of Sri Lanka took to the field for batting, with Captain Suryakumar Yadav entrusting Arshdeep Singh with the ball.
Arshdeep Singh’s first delivery resulted in Kusal Perera being caught by Rinku, immediately putting Sri Lanka on the back foot. Kamindu Mendis followed and scored a single on the second ball, allowing Shanaka to take strike. The third ball from Arshdeep Singh resulted in no runs.
The fourth ball brought significant drama. Shanaka failed to connect with the ball, which then landed in wicketkeeper Sanju Samson’s hands. As Shanaka attempted a run, Samson hit the stumps. The umpire initially ruled Shanaka out, believing the ball had touched his bat.
