A court has handed down a life sentence to a man found guilty of raping his one-year-old stepdaughter, along with a fine of Rs one lakh. The trial in the case was completed within a fortnight.
The man was convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The girl’s mother reported the crime, stating the assault occurred on July 18 when she was away. The victim suffered physical injuries and bleeding.
The charge sheet was filed in September, leading to daily court proceedings soon after.

In another legal matter, the Patiala House Court in Delhi has postponed its decision on the bail application of Gaganpreet Kaur, who was apprehended in connection with the Dhaula Kuan BMW crash, resulting in the death of Finance Ministry Deputy Secretary Navjot Singh.
Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Ankit Garg reserved the order after viewing CCTV evidence, listening to arguments from the Special Public Prosecutor, the defense, and the complainant’s legal representative.
The final ruling is expected on September 27, at which time the accused is scheduled to appear in court.
The Delhi police presented CCTV footage of the incident during the court proceedings.
