Nissan is preparing for a significant expansion in India, with plans to introduce four new models. This includes a C-segment SUV, a subcompact MPV, a D-segment SUV, and an A-segment EV. The sub-4 meter MPV will be a rebadged Renault Triber, scheduled for an early 2026 release. A new mid-size SUV is also in the pipeline. This new compact SUV, built on the third-generation Renault Duster platform, is expected to be available in showrooms by mid-2026. The mid-size SUV segment is currently populated by strong competitors like the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Hyundai Creta, Toyota Hyryder, and Kia Seltos, which the new Nissan model will aim to challenge. The Nissan Terrano was discontinued in India in 2020 due to disappointing sales and a weak dealer network. The upcoming Nissan Duster-based SUV is poised to take the place of the Terrano within the company’s product range. However, the brand has not yet disclosed whether it will revive the ‘Nissan Terrano’ name or opt for a new one. Teasers and spy shots reveal that the upcoming mid-size SUV will feature a robust design and a commanding road presence. It is expected to have Nissan’s signature grille, inverted L-shaped LED DRLs, and a flat bonnet. Features such as bold shoulder creases, 18-inch alloy wheels with prominent wheel arches, extensive body cladding, and roof rails will add to its sporty look. The interior is expected to resemble the new Duster, with numerous premium features. Reports suggest it could have enhancements compared to current models. The features list could include a large touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, rear AC vents, multiple airbags, ESC, ADAS, and more. The engine options may come from the new Renault Duster, potentially including several petrol engines and a hybrid version. There might also be a CNG variant offered.
