The Supreme Court is currently addressing concerns about the ongoing investigation into the Air India Flight AI171 crash that occurred in June 2025. Specifically, the court expressed its disapproval of the selective dissemination of the preliminary inquiry report, which has been interpreted by some media outlets as assigning responsibility to pilot error. The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are required to respond to a plea from the Safety Matters Foundation, an NGO. The foundation is requesting an independent, impartial, and expedient inquiry into the Ahmedabad Air India crash of June 21, which resulted in the loss of 260 lives. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
