The Bombay High Court has ruled that a case against a Pune student who posted content critical of Operation Sindoor cannot be dismissed solely on the grounds that the student deleted the post and apologized. The operation, launched by India against Pakistan after an attack in Jammu and Kashmir, prompted the student’s social media post in May. The student had subsequently filed a petition seeking dismissal of the case. The court emphasized that the fact that the student is a bright student with good academic performance isn’t sufficient to warrant the cancellation of the FIR.
The court has scheduled the next hearing in the case for two weeks hence and has directed the public prosecutor, Mankhuwar Deshmukh, to present the case diary.
