In a move aimed at enhancing accessibility, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has partnered with the Department of Post (DoP). The agreement allows customers to buy BSNL SIM cards and recharge their accounts at post offices across India.
The collaboration will transform over 1.65 lakh post offices into BSNL sales and service centers, especially benefiting those in rural and remote regions.
The arrangement involves BSNL providing SIM card stock and training to post office staff for customer onboarding. The Department of Post will facilitate new connections and recharges securely and efficiently.
The government anticipates that this partnership will make BSNL services more accessible in rural and underserved areas, aligning with the goals of Digital India, financial inclusion, and socio-economic development.
The pilot program in Assam was successful and is now being expanded nationwide. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Delhi.
This collaboration leverages India Post’s strong network and BSNL’s telecom capabilities, providing affordable and accessible connectivity for everyone. It ensures BSNL’s services reach every part of the country.
The agreement is for one year, commencing on September 17, with the possibility of extension. Regular monthly reviews will be conducted by both departments, with strict adherence to cybersecurity and data privacy protocols.
