As the relationship between India and Canada begins to improve, Khalistani organizations are expressing their disapproval. The Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), a Khalistani group based in the United States, has initiated a fresh dispute. The group has issued a threat to encircle and take control of the Indian Consulate in Vancouver. The SFJ released a poster that directly targeted India’s new High Commissioner, Dinesh Patnaik. The organization asserts that the Indian consulate is involved in surveillance and operating a spy network targeting Khalistan supporters. Furthermore, the group has explicitly instructed Indo-Canadians to reschedule any planned visits to the consulate for visa or passport-related matters on September 19th. The SFJ’s statement brought up the 2023 killing of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The organization stated that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau himself admitted in Parliament that there was an ongoing investigation into the involvement of Indian agents in Nijjar’s death. SFJ alleges that India’s espionage operations in Canada are still ongoing, despite the passing of two years. The organization claims that the threat to Khalistanis is so significant that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had to provide witness protection to Inderjit Singh Gosal, the current leader of the Khalistan Referendum campaign, who took over after Nijjar’s death. SFJ stated that they intend to seek accountability from Indian agencies through a siege. An internal report from the Canadian government also recently acknowledged that Khalistani extremist groups are receiving financial support from Canadian-based individuals and networks, including organizations like Babbar Khalsa International and International SYF, which Canada has designated as terrorist groups.
