Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, has been experiencing relentless rainfall for the past 30 hours. The Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for over 15 districts in the region, indicating the severity of the weather conditions. This heavy downpour has caused widespread disruption, with major roads and residential areas submerged, leading to significant challenges for residents.
The intense waterlogging on Ranchi’s roads has made it appear as though vehicles are navigating through a body of water. A dramatic incident occurred on Monday evening near the Kantatoli flyover, where a section of the road was completely flooded due to the rain. A white Scorpio car, caught in this deluge, became submerged in a deep pothole filled with water.
Local residents swiftly came to the rescue, successfully extracting the occupants of the vehicle. The dramatic video of the submerged Scorpio has quickly gone viral. The Meteorological Department has forecasted continued rainfall, issuing a Yellow Alert for Ranchi and more than 15 other districts for the next 24 to 48 hours.
In light of the ongoing severe weather, the department has urged the public to take precautions against lightning strikes. Sadly, two fatalities were reported in Heselpiri village, under the Budhmu police station area of Ranchi, on Sunday evening. The victims, identified as Bal Govind Mahato and Udaynath Mahato, were struck by lightning while returning home with their animals.
