Following the implementation of GST 2.0, a wave of price reductions has swept across the Indian automotive market, with manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Kia adjusting prices on their vehicles. This includes a range of models, from hatchbacks and sedans to popular compact and mid-size SUVs. If you’re in the market for a new car, here’s a look at the top 5 compact SUVs offering significant savings thanks to the recent GST adjustments.
**Maruti Brezza**
The Maruti Brezza, though less than 4 meters in length, packs a 1.5-liter petrol engine. Currently, the Brezza is priced between ₹8.69-13.98 lakh (ex-showroom) with a 45% GST rate. With the reduction in the tax rate to 40% from September 22nd, expect to see a price drop of ₹30,000-₹48,000 based on the specific variant. Post-GST adjustments, the Brezza’s price range could settle between ₹8.39-13.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
**Hyundai Venue**
The Hyundai Venue is a significant beneficiary of GST 2.0, with price cuts of up to ₹1.32 lakh in the Indian market. The change in GST rates has led to reductions in the prices of both petrol (1.0 liter and 1.2 liter) and diesel (1.5 liter) variants. Previously, the Venue’s petrol and diesel models were subject to taxes of approximately 29% (28% GST + 1% cess) and 31% (28% GST + 3% cess), respectively. These models are now placed within the 18% GST bracket.
Prices for the Hyundai Venue range from ₹7.94-13.38 lakh (ex-showroom). After the implementation of GST 2.0, prices will shift to the ₹7.26-12.05 lakh (ex-showroom) range. The top-tier diesel variant sees a price reduction of ₹1.32 lakh, while the base variant’s price has decreased by ₹68,000.
**Kia Sonet**
Kia Sonet joins Hyundai in experiencing the advantages of GST 2.0, with price reductions of up to ₹1.64 lakh in the domestic market. Similar to the Venue, the Sonet’s petrol and diesel variants previously incurred taxes of 29% (28% GST + 1% cess) and 31% (28% GST + 3% cess). Following the GST alterations, these models now fall under the 18% slab.
The Kia Sonet starts at ₹8 lakh, scaling up to ₹15.74 lakh for the top-end GTX Plus DT diesel-automatic variant. Post-GST changes, prices will be within the ₹7.30-14.10 lakh range, resulting in price reductions of ₹70,000-₹1.64 lakh in the Indian market.
**Tata Nexon**
Tata Motors has announced reductions of up to ₹1.55 lakh for its Nexon compact SUV, effective from September 22nd. Like the Venue and Sonet, the Nexon’s petrol and diesel variants previously faced 29% (28% GST + 1% cess) and 31% (28% GST + 3% cess) taxes. GST 2.0 places all Nexon variants under a unified 18% GST rate.
**Mahindra XUV 3XO**
Mahindra stands out as the sole auto brand in the country to offer GST 2.0 benefits starting September 6th, while other manufacturers are set to implement changes on September 22nd. The XUV 3XO, Mahindra’s only sub-4 meter SUV, sees price reductions of ₹1.40 lakh and ₹1.56 lakh for its petrol and diesel variants, respectively.
The previous tax slabs of 29% and 31% have been replaced with an 18% tax rate. Before the GST 2.0 announcement, the XUV 3XO was priced between ₹7.99-15.80 lakh. Now, prices range from ₹7.28-14.40 lakh, reflecting price drops of ₹71,000-₹1.56 lakh based on the variant.
