Amit Khare, a retired IAS officer, has been appointed as Secretary to the newly elected Vice President, C.P. Radhakrishnan. This appointment, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, is for a period of three years. The order, issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, specifies that Khare will hold the rank and receive the pay of a Secretary, with the appointment becoming effective from the date he assumes his duties.
The official order states that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Amit Khare, a retired IAS officer from the 1985 batch of the Jharkhand cadre, as Secretary to the Vice-President of India.
Before this appointment, Khare served as an Advisor to the Prime Minister since October 2021, focusing on social sector initiatives under the Prime Minister’s Office. He played a crucial role in formulating and implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Khare’s extensive career includes tenures as Secretary of Information & Broadcasting, Secretary of School Education & Literacy, and Secretary of Higher Education. His career also includes bringing to light the ‘fodder scam’ of Bihar.
Khare is an alumnus of St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and holds a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from IIM Ahmedabad. He completed his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hinoo in 1977.
C. P. Radhakrishnan was sworn in as India’s 15th Vice President. The oath-taking ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office. Radhakrishnan, the NDA candidate, secured 452 votes, defeating B. Sudershan Reddy, who received 300 votes. Prior to his nomination, Radhakrishnan served as the Governor of Maharashtra.
