During a TV-9 Digital meeting, former Congress President Akhilesh Singh addressed the necessity of the Congress and RJD parties to remain united in Bihar. He stated that neither party can survive independently. The discussion arose in response to a query about the Congress’s declining fortunes post the JP movement and the dependence on RJD, led by Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Singh explained the interdependence by referencing the 2010 elections where the parties contested separately, leading to significant seat losses for both. He argued that their combined strength is crucial to challenge the BJP’s coalition, considering the social dynamics of Bihar. Singh further noted that the Congress has been out of power since the 1990s, with limited involvement in coalition governments. He highlighted his leadership in Bihar for a period, emphasizing the party’s improved performance during his tenure, especially in the Lok Sabha elections. He mentioned a notable increase in votes during his presidency compared to the 2019 elections.
Singh also mentioned that the Congress’s strike rate in Bihar is higher than the RJD. He addressed questions about Pappu Yadav’s association with the Congress, explaining that alliance dynamics require compromises. He cited the Purnia seat as an example of such a compromise, influenced by the RJD’s concerns and a prior announcement by Lalu Prasad Yadav. He added that the Congress contested the Maharajganj seat in contrast.
