Authorities are investigating the disappearance of a one-crore rupee elephant in Palamu. The mahout is missing, believed to have fled with the animal. The situation is being monitored with the help of a tracking chip embedded in the elephant, enabling the Forest Department and police to pinpoint its location. The incident was reported by Narendra Kumar Shukla, a resident of Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, who filed a complaint at the Medininagar Sadar police station. Shukla explained that he had received the elephant, named Jaymati, from Sangam Lal. He brought the elephant to Jharkhand due to inadequate resources in his village. The care of the elephant was delegated to Munna Pandey and Munna Pathak. The two men befriended another elephant owner, Tarkeshwar Nath.
The group took the elephants to the Jorkat area, under the jurisdiction of the Medininagar Sadar police station. Shukla arrived in Palamu on August 11th. He later discovered on August 13th that the elephant and mahout had vanished. Extensive searches were conducted in Palamu and other parts of Jharkhand. Unable to locate the elephant or mahout, Shukla filed an official report a month later. Sadar police station in-charge Lalji confirmed that the elephant is estimated to be worth one crore rupees. The investigation is ongoing, and the FIR has been filed. The Forest Department is utilizing the elephant’s tracking chip to determine its current whereabouts.
