Authorities have apprehended Tyler Robinson, the prime suspect in the shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Following the shooting, Robinson reportedly considered self-harm when faced by his father regarding the matter. Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed the arrest, confirming the suspect’s link to the shooting.
The investigation, which spanned three days, was jumpstarted by initial evidence: a palm print, a rifle found in a wooded area, and distinct shoe sole impressions. Governor Cox, alongside FBI Chief Kash Patel, reported the arrest. A family member of Robinson contacted a family friend, who then notified the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with information about Robinson’s possible confession. The family member remembered a dinner conversation where Robinson mentioned Kirk’s visit to Utah and expressed his disapproval of Kirk, accusing him of spreading hate. Robinson’s roommate also shared messages received on Discord, in which Robinson described hiding a rifle in the bushes. Patel confirmed the arrest, which occurred at approximately 10 p.m. local time on September 11. Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University.
