The National Lok Adalat, set for September 13, 2025, provides vehicle owners throughout India with an avenue to address their pending traffic challans. Conducted in courts across the country, the Lok Adalat is designed to handle minor traffic violations. These include offenses such as driving without necessary safety equipment, speeding, incorrect parking, and not possessing a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. Participants can potentially have their fines reduced or completely waived, thereby saving both time and money while sidestepping lengthy court proceedings. It is important to note that serious offenses such as driving under the influence, hit-and-run cases, and instances of negligent driving resulting in death are not covered.
To participate in the Lok Adalat in Delhi and resolve outstanding traffic e-challans, online registration is required. The registration process involves visiting the Delhi Traffic Police website at traffic.delhipolice.gov.in, selecting the ‘Delhi State Legal Services Authority’ option, and filling in personal and vehicle information, including challan details. After submitting the form, applicants receive a token number and an appointment letter via email, which includes confirmation and download links. Hearing sessions will be held from 10 AM to 4 PM.
On the day of the hearing, vehicle owners must present a printed appointment letter, token number, and original documentation, including vehicle and challan papers. It is recommended to arrive at the designated venue at least an hour before the proceedings start. Eligible traffic challans encompass a range of minor offenses such as not wearing a seat belt or helmet, disregarding traffic signals, speeding, improper parking, driving without a valid PUC, missing number plates, not having a vehicle fitness certificate, driving in the wrong lane, driving without a valid license, incorrectly issued challans, and other minor infractions.
Certain serious violations are excluded from the program. These include driving under the influence, hit-and-run cases, instances of negligent driving resulting in death, underage driving, illegal racing or speed trials, vehicles tied to criminal cases, cases already under court jurisdiction, and challans issued by other states. In Delhi, Lok Adalat sessions will be hosted across multiple locations. These include Dwarka Court, Tis Hazari Court, Rohini Court, Rouse Avenue Court, Karkardooma Court, Patiala House Court, and Saket Court. Furthermore, additional sessions will be conducted at the Delhi High Court, District Courts, Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Debt Recovery Tribunal, Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, and Permanent Lok Adalats.
Citizens benefit significantly from the Lok Adalat through several key advantages. These benefits include settling minor violations with waived or reduced fines, avoiding legal expenses, saving time by circumventing lengthy court proceedings, and allowing the judiciary to concentrate on more serious legal matters. This initiative aims to foster compliance with traffic laws while accelerating the resolution of minor legal disputes.
