The brutal murder of a young woman in Korba, Chhattisgarh, on December 24, 2022, has resulted in a life sentence for the perpetrator. Sahban Khan, a 30-year-old resident of Ahmedabad and a bus conductor, killed his 20-year-old girlfriend after suspecting her of infidelity. He raped her before inflicting 51 stab wounds to her chest using a screwdriver.
Khan had traveled from Ahmedabad to Jaipur, where he worked as a bus conductor. He met the victim, who was a student traveling on his bus, and they began a relationship. The relationship took a dark turn when the woman started communicating with another man, causing Khan to become possessive and threatening. He even contacted her mother, issuing threats to ensure the woman would end her interactions with other men.
Driven by his suspicions, Khan planned the murder. He flew from Ahmedabad to Raipur and then to Korba on December 24, 2022. After staying at a hotel, he went to her house, where a heated argument occurred. He then raped the woman and repeatedly stabbed her in the chest. The woman died at the scene.
The woman’s brother discovered her body and notified the police. Evidence collected at the crime scene included blood-stained shoes, clothing, and a condom packet. The police, aided by the cyber cell, investigated the case for approximately one and a half months before arresting Khan in Gujarat and bringing him back to Korba. Khan confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Special Judge Jaideep Garg of the District Court found Khan guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. He was also fined 75,000 rupees, with an additional 18 months in jail if the fine wasn’t paid.
