Yasim Murtaza currently captains the Hong Kong team in the Asia Cup, yet the 34-year-old harbored aspirations of playing for Pakistan. He had represented Pakistan’s Under-19 team and played first-class and List-A matches for Rawalpindi. However, a devastating event in 2016 altered his path. A fire at the Regent Plaza Hotel in Karachi resulted in 11 fatalities and 45 injuries. At the time of the incident, Murtaza was staying at the hotel with his team, preparing for a match in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. To escape the blaze, Murtaza leaped from the second floor, fracturing his ankle. He received treatment at the home of his teammate, Shan Masood. This injury ultimately derailed his dream of playing for Pakistan, but he refused to surrender.
