A new online investment scam is targeting individuals through the Zupedia app and website. Cyber Police Kashmir has issued a public advisory on X and Facebook to alert citizens about the fraudulent activities. The scammers lure victims by initially asking them to register and then rate online content. After a period of performing these tasks, users are prompted to recharge their accounts with varying amounts.
Initially, users receive small payments for completing tasks, which builds trust and encourages further investment. However, once larger sums are invested, users find themselves unable to withdraw their earnings, leading to financial losses. The perpetrators of this scam often go to the extent of completely emptying victims’ accounts.
If you suspect you’ve been scammed, it is crucial to report the incident immediately. Visit the Indian government’s Cyber Crime Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) and file a complaint. Alternatively, you can call the helpline number 1930 to report the fraud. Prompt reporting increases the likelihood of recovering lost funds.
