A plea to cancel the India-Pakistan match in the 2025 Asia Cup was rejected by the Supreme Court. The petition, filed by a group of law students under Article 32 of the Constitution, requested the court to prevent the match from taking place in Dubai on September 14th. The petitioners expressed concerns about the appropriateness of holding a sporting event with Pakistan, given the current political climate and recent tragedies, including the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. They argued that such a match could be seen as disregarding the sacrifices of the armed forces and the emotional impact on the public. The Supreme Court bench, however, responded with brevity, with Justice Maheshwari stating, “it’s just a match.” The court declined to expedite the hearing of the case.
