All airports in Nepal, including Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, will remain closed until Wednesday at noon. The closure, effective from 2 PM on Tuesday, is a response to the ongoing unrest. This has resulted in hundreds of passengers being stranded, both in Nepal and internationally, as all flight operations have been halted since the afternoon of September 9th. The Nepali Army has been deployed to secure the airport.
Airport officials will assess conditions before deciding whether to resume operations after Wednesday noon. The Nepali Army has taken over management both within and outside the airport, according to officials. Although overall security is assured, complete safety for planes and passengers cannot be guaranteed given the present circumstances.
Buddha Air has acknowledged that their flights will be affected on Wednesday and has issued an apology. Regular updates on flight schedules and other relevant information will be provided. Indian airlines, IndiGo and SpiceJet, have also issued travel advisories, suspending flights to and from Kathmandu.
