The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, the 41st annual ceremony, was held in New York City on September 7th, hosted by LL Cool J. The event showcased performances from Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, and Alex Warren, among others. Presenters included a diverse group of celebrities such as Ashlee Simpson Ross, Brittany Snow, Ciara, Ice Spice, Jessica Simpson, and Megan Stalter. This year marked the first time the show was broadcast live on CBS.
Doja Cat’s opening act, a throwback to the 1980s featuring Max Headroom on screen, set the tone for the night. Kenny G joined her on stage, adding a special touch to her performance of “Jealous Type.”
Lady Gaga, with the most nominations (12), was awarded Artist of the Year by Lenny Kravitz. A portion of her Madison Square Garden concert was featured. Sabrina Carpenter’s performance of “Tears,” promoting trans rights, contributed to her wins for Best Pop and Best Album.
Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin, and Busta Rhymes were celebrated with career achievement awards, and tributes were paid to the late Ozzy Osbourne by Yungblud and Aerosmith.
