Prime Minister Narendra Modi has planned a visit to Punjab to address the situation.
On September 9th, PM Modi will tour the flood-affected areas of Punjab, specifically focusing on Gurdaspur. The visit is eagerly awaited by the residents of Punjab, who hope for the announcement of a substantial relief package. The Prime Minister may declare financial aid or compensation for those impacted by the floods.
Approximately 2,000 villages have been impacted by the floods in Punjab. The floods have been ongoing since August 17th, resulting from continuous heavy rainfall. Residents of the affected villages have been relocated. The agricultural sector has suffered significantly, with over 2 lakh hectares of crops destroyed. Reports indicate that the state has suffered losses of over 10,000 crore.
The Punjab government has already declared a state of disaster and has requested a substantial financial aid package of 60,000 crore from the central government. During his visit, PM Modi is expected to announce a comprehensive aid package.
Many districts in Punjab are suffering due to the floods. The army is actively engaged in rescue and relief operations. Bollywood actor Salman Khan has come forward to assist those impacted by the floods, along with other actors who have adopted villages to provide support.
