India is currently facing a severe weather crisis, with extreme weather events impacting various regions. Heavy rainfall and flooding have caused significant damage and loss of life in several areas, while others are experiencing drought conditions. The situation is particularly dire in Punjab, where the 1988 flood record has been surpassed.
Torrential rains have been causing widespread devastation across the country, particularly in the northern states. Landslides, inundation of cities and villages, and disruption of essential services have created a challenging situation, leading to loss of life and displacement. Uttarakhand witnessed several incidents due to these heavy rains, with approximately 79 fatalities and 95 people still missing.
In Punjab, the relentless rain has brought severe flooding, affecting 1655 villages and displacing over 3.5 lakh people. The impact includes the loss of livestock and widespread crop damage.
