A statewide bandh in Bihar has been announced by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for September 4th. The protest is a direct response to offensive language used by the opposition against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a recent joint event in the state. According to BJP’s Bihar state president, Dilip Jaiswal, the bandh will last five hours, commencing at 7 am and concluding at 12 noon. However, the shutdown will not impact essential services like emergency facilities and railway operations. The BJP Mahila Morcha will be at the forefront of the demonstrations. The bandh is specifically in response to the objectionable comments made by Congress workers during the Voter Adhikar Yatra held in Darbhanga last week. Umesh Kushwaha, a leader from Janata Dal (United), stated that the use of abusive language was inappropriate both morally and politically. He also criticized the lack of apology from the Mahagathbandhan leaders, portraying it as a display of arrogance. The NDA believes these comments insulted women and necessitate a strong response, leading to the decision to call for the Bihar bandh and organize protests by the women’s wing across the state. Simultaneously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an indirect remark, possibly aimed at INDIA bloc leaders Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav. He labeled them ‘namdaars,’ implying they are privileged and cannot understand the hardships faced by the underprivileged. He referenced the derogatory comments made during the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar last week, suggesting these leaders view power as an inherited right.
