The path is clear for Mahanaryaman Scindia to become the president of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA), as no other contender has emerged to challenge his candidacy. This development signifies the continuation of a family legacy, with Mahanaryaman poised to become the third generation of the Scindia family to lead the MPCA. His predecessors include Madhavrao Scindia and Jyotiraditya Scindia, who both served as presidents of the association for considerable tenures.
The election of Mahanaryaman Rao Scindia as the new MPCA president appears highly probable. He is the son of Jyotiraditya Scindia, a central minister and a prominent figure in the BJP. Mahanaryaman has been actively involved in cricket administration, holding positions such as president of the Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) and vice-president of the Gwalior Division Cricket Association (GDCA).
The formal appointment of Mahanaryaman as the new president is anticipated at the state cricket body’s annual general meeting, which is scheduled for September 2nd in Indore. He stands as the sole candidate for the MPCA presidency, making an unopposed election highly likely. He will be succeeding Abhilash Khandekar.
Khandekar, a respected journalist and author, took over the MPCA presidency in 2019 with the backing of Jyotiraditya Scindia. The 28-year-old Mahanaryaman is set to uphold the Scindia family’s tradition of leading the state cricket board.
He played a crucial role in establishing the Madhya Pradesh League, the primary and only franchise league in the state, organized by GDCA under the umbrella of the MPCA. This league has been instrumental in offering a stage for numerous talented young cricketers from across Madhya Pradesh.
Additionally, the election of other executive committee members, including Vineet Sethia (vice-president), Sudhir Asnani (secretary), and Sanjay Dua (treasurer), is also expected. Other probable members of the executive committee include Rajiv Risodkar, Prashun Kanmadi, Vijeas Rana, and Sandhya Agarwal. For the position of joint secretary, Prem Patel, Rajesh Bhargav, and Amardeep Pathania had taken the forms, and Amardeep Pathania has filled the form for this post.
The Scindia family has consistently exerted considerable influence over the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association. Madhavrao Scindia, a cricketer himself, also served as the MPCA president. Following his footsteps, Jyotiraditya Scindia took on the responsibility, eventually transitioning into a Member of Parliament and a Union Minister. Now, Jyotiraditya’s son, Mahanaryaman Scindia, is entering the political arena and will shoulder the duties of MPCA president.
