Sri Lanka has announced its squad for the Asia Cup 2025, with Wanindu Hasaranga making the cut. The tournament will be held in the UAE, beginning September 9th. Notably, Hasaranga will not be part of the team for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, commencing Friday with the first ODI in Harare. The Zimbabwe tour includes one more ODI and three T20Is.
The inclusion of Hasaranga in the Asia Cup squad comes despite a hamstring injury suffered during the home series against Bangladesh. Young batsmen Kamil Mishara and Nuwanidu Fernando are also part of the squad.
In addition to Hasaranga, Sri Lanka’s squad boasts spin bowling talents Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana. Having lost to India in the 2023 Asia Cup final, Sri Lanka is grouped with Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong in Group B. The team’s schedule includes matches against Bangladesh (September 13), Hong Kong (September 15), and Afghanistan (September 18) before the Super Four stage.
