A substantial rise in electricity bills awaits consumers in Chhattisgarh in September. For an extended period, specifically over 6 years, a significant discount had been in place, providing substantial relief to households. This subsidy, which offered a 50% reduction on electricity bills for consumption up to 400 units, has now been revoked by the government. The impact of this decision, implemented from August 1st, will be apparent in the upcoming electricity bills. Consequently, consumers will see an increase in their monthly bills, ranging from 558 to 1223 rupees. Since March 1, 2019, the government had offered a 50% subsidy on the first 400 units of electricity consumed each month by domestic users. This arrangement extended to all residential users, including those exceeding the 400-unit threshold, who still benefitted from the discount on the initial units. Any usage beyond this threshold was charged at the full rate. This financial assistance is now ending, signaling a marked rise in the monthly expenditure on electricity for households.
