The aftermath of the heavy rain and landslides in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday has led to 35 reported fatalities, with many missing and injured receiving treatment. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary has strongly criticized the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, questioning the decision to proceed with the pilgrimage during severe weather. He emphasized the need for the CEO of the Shrine Board and the LG of Jammu and Kashmir to provide answers. Choudhary has called the event a major disaster and is seeking substantial aid from the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. He directly holds the Shrine Board accountable, asserting that the LG, as the board’s chairman, should have recognized the high alert and suspended the pilgrimage. He believes that the pilgrims were intentionally killed, alleging a criminal conspiracy, and has called for a high-level investigation by the Prime Minister and Home Minister. In response to the tragedy, the Hotel Association has announced that it will offer free lodging for those in need, with a dedicated hotline available. Local residents have also expressed their anger, organizing a protest and blaming the Shrine Board’s negligence.
