Jyoti Jeetun, Mauritius’s Finance Minister, clarified that the country is a low‑tax jurisdiction, not a haven. She acknowledged a few historical cases of misuse but stressed that regulatory mechanisms are in place and no recent violations have been recorded. Jeetun referenced the removal of Mauritius from the FATF grey list in 2023 following a 2020 placement because of money‑laundering cases. She highlighted the high standards of Mauritian oversight, citing that 12 government agencies are responsible for supervision, regulation, and enforcement. The country complies with virtually all FATF requirements and plans to undergo a mutual evaluation in 2027 in order to remain compliant. Additionally, the minister affirmed Mauritius’s balanced relationship with China and India, noting that the island welcomes citizens from both nations and views each partnership equally.
