Virender Sehwag, the former Indian cricketer celebrated for his aggressive batting, is now a commentator. His son, Aryaveer Sehwag, is currently participating in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025, playing for Central Delhi Kings. Aryaveer recently disclosed a significant conversation he had with his father. He revealed that while Virender Sehwag was an international cricketer, Aryaveer and others didn’t fully appreciate his father’s cricketing prowess. Virender Sehwag used to say, ‘You consider me just another player; you’ll understand when you step onto the field.’ Aryaveer shared this during an interview, highlighting his evolving perspective on his father’s cricketing achievements.
During the interview, Aryaveer stated, ‘My father would say, ‘You people think I’m just average; you’ll understand when you play professional cricket.’ I now realize how great my father was.’ He mentioned that after playing professional cricket for a few years, he gained a deeper understanding of his father’s exceptional talent. Aryaveer also described his childhood, playing cricket with plastic bats and balls alongside his brother, and how his father consistently motivated them to play well.
Aryaveer also recalled an early IPL memory. He said that the family used to attend the IPL matches held in Delhi. During the initial IPL season, Virender Sehwag was playing for Delhi Daredevils. He remembered that by the time they arrived at the Arun Jaitley Stadium (Kotla Stadium), his father had already been dismissed. This left them feeling disheartened. Although Aryaveer Sehwag has not yet featured in DPL 2025, he mirrors his father’s batting style, known for his rapid scoring as an opening batsman.
Central Delhi Kings invested ₹8 lakh to secure 17-year-old Aryaveer Sehwag for this season. While he hasn’t played a match yet, the anticipation for his power-hitting abilities is already high.
