A missing person case in Chikmagalur, Karnataka, has turned into a murder investigation, resulting in the arrest of a 56-year-old woman and her 33-year-old boyfriend, along with two accomplices. The accused, identified as Meenakshamma, Pradeep, Siddesh, and Vishwas, all residents of Kadur, are implicated in the killing of Subramanya, 60, who was Meenakshamma’s husband.
Subramanya, a tailor, was reported missing by his wife on June 2nd, prompting a police investigation. Initially, the police searched for Subramanya, but then discovered a partially burnt leg on a railway track near Kadur. Further investigation led to the discovery of the body and examination of CCTV footage. The footage showed Subramanya with Pradeep, Siddesh, and Vishwas near his shop on May 31st.
The police questioned the individuals seen in the CCTV footage, leading to confessions and subsequent arrests. Meenakshamma and Pradeep were reportedly in a relationship, although initial evidence was lacking. The police officer noted that Meenakshamma was very emotional at the news of her husband’s death, but the investigation of Pradeep and his friends brought her involvement to light.
Call records showed that Meenakshamma had not contacted Pradeep directly recently, but was frequently contacting a number registered under Pradeep’s mother’s name. Technical analysis confirmed Pradeep was using the SIM card. This discovery provided crucial evidence in the case.
It has been alleged that on May 31, Pradeep and the others devised a plan to kill Subramanya. The group took Subramanya in a car to a secluded area where they consumed alcohol. Pradeep then killed Subramanya by slitting his throat. They attempted to burn the body but were unsuccessful, leaving the body behind.
Authorities believe Meenakshamma orchestrated the murder to remove her husband who was opposing her relationship with Pradeep, whom she had met four years earlier and developed a romantic relationship with. The couple, along with two friends, are currently in judicial custody.
