The Central Delhi Kings secured their spot in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) Season 2 playoffs with a commanding performance, defeating Purani Dilli 6 by 104 runs (DLS method) in a rain-affected match at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday.
Batting first, the Kings overcame an early wicket loss. Yash Dhull played a key role with a half-century, forming a vital partnership with Yugal Saini. The middle order also contributed, with Jonty Sidhu and Aditya Bhandari adding quick runs. Aryan Rana then provided a late-innings flourish, scoring an unbeaten 42 off 14 balls. The Kings reached 197/5 in 18 overs, with Rajneesh Dadar taking three wickets for Purani Dilli 6.
Purani Dilli 6 faced early trouble in their chase. Money Grewal and Arun Pundir took key wickets. Skipper Vansh Bedi briefly counter-attacked before being dismissed. Rain intervened with the score at 44/3 in 6 overs, setting a DLS target of 174 in 15 overs.
After the rain break, Purani Dilli 6’s struggles continued. Simarjeet Singh took two wickets, while Pranav Pant offered some resistance. However, the remaining batsmen fell cheaply, and Purani Dilli 6 were bowled out for 69 runs.
All Kings bowlers were effective, with Simarjeet Singh and Jonty Sidhu each taking two wickets for just six runs. Arun Pundir also took two wickets. This decisive win bolsters the Kings’ playoff aspirations and sends a warning to other teams in the DPL Season 2.
